Self-Love, What It Is and How To Practice It

What is Self Love


Self love is the unconditional acceptance of oneself, through all moments the good and bad. Learning to sit with yourself and knowing you are worthy of love, flaws and all. Self love is taking care of your own needs and prioritizing yourself and your wellbeing even when it is hard. Self love is about showing up for yourself, so you can be the best version of yourself. Self love is treating yourself with grace, compassion and tenderness. Self love is viewing yourself through a non-judgmental lens, and acting as your true authentic self.


Why is Self Love so important


“You can not pour, out of an empty cup”


Self love is so important because you are the only one who is in control of how you feel and knows what you need to be fulfilled. When we depend on others to provide us with happiness we give away our power and our emotions are at the mercy of others. However when we turn inward to fulfill us we no longer need others to make us happy and in turn we are better able to spread joy and happiness.


Acts of Self-Love


  • Start your day with a morning meditation

  • Journal out your feeling

  • Have a nutritious breakfast, (maybe a smoothie)

  • Spend some time out in nature

  • Go for a walk or run outside

  • Paint a picture

  • Enjoy a cup of tea

  • Recite some positive affirmations

  • Compliment yourself

  • Take a bubble bath or hot shower

  • Give yourself a mani and pedi

  • Make a list of things you are grateful for

  • Write a love letter to yourself

  • Listen to running water

  • Do something creative, write, draw, paint

  • Play some music and dance like nobody's watching

  • Call a friend or family member

  • I deeply and completely accept myself

  • I am calm and peace

  • I am thankful for everything I have

  • I am confident in my abilities to make the right decisions

  • I don’t let others’ thoughts or judgments affect me

  • I accept myself exactly as I am

  • My own self care is a priority to me

  • I am beautiful inside and out

  • I am proud of who I am

  • I am a gift

  • I choose to see the positive, even in tough times

  • I appreciate what I have in my life right now

  • I have beautiful qualities to offer this world

  • What is your favorite thing about your personality?

  • When do you feel most confident?

  • What are five things that make you unique?

  • How can you make yourself happy in the next 24 hours?

  • What are positive ways you’ve changed over the past five or ten years?

  • What sets your heart on fire and why do you love yourself for that?

  • What do you feel like you need the most right now and how can you meet that need?

  • How can I meet my insecurities, mistakes and flaws with grace, acceptance and love today?
